The historical village centre of Ammerstol exists of detached dike houses with low gutters and traditional thatched roofs or roofs with tiles. The newly built house of Ellen Vereijken and Paul de Vries fits in this tradition, but is still modern. The high angled roof, the combination of wood and brick in the facades, the recessed front door, the open carport and the porch on the garden side are in harmony with the streetscape, but the panoramic dormer in the attic is unmistakable from these times. In order not to disturb the quiet streetscape, this alienating element is oriented towards the backyard.
