Telescope Tower for the Nieuwe Kerk

A spectacular tourist attraction in the heart of Amsterdam. S2 architects devised a telescopic tower that can disappear in the ground on the original location of the church tower that was never built. You can get into the tower at street level and within 10 minutes you are 110 meter higher and enjoying the panoramic view of the historical city centre.

Through an ingenious system of gears and cables, it is possible for the four nestling telescopic tower segments to easily slide in and out. Computer-controlled adjustments for the tension force in the corner points ensure sufficient stability even in strong winds. Sustainable exploitation is possible due to the expected number of visitors (300 days of 25 rides at 200 persons per year).
