The huge empty spaces in the former wool factory in the south of France, on the market for a penny, formed the inspiration for Cees de Rijke’s Dream factory: a laboratory for sustainability, experiments and social cohesion.
By partially removing the roof of the production hall, an atrium arises between the high-rise and low-rise. Just like in a traditional Moroccan riad, the water and the green in the courtyard bring calm and coolness in all areas around it. The ivy on the exterior wall, solar panels on the roof and underneath camper vehicles or straw bundles and rainwater stored in underground water basins provide opportunities for an autonomous and self-sufficient project.
