Cooling Tower Café

Centrally positioned in the green heart of the Nirlon IT Business Park, a redevelopment in the centre of Mumbai, is the Cooling Tower Café.

This 12 meter high concrete building previously functioned as power house. The building was first stripped of all non-bearing walls, floors and beams. Subsequently, three floor levels were fitted and holes were cut in the façade and inner walls. The long window strips in the side facades focus the line of sight of the visitor to the water and greenery outside. The double-height windows and the open stairwells en the lofts behind the end gables allow the visitor to experience the full height of the building. The slow suspended fans and the round holes in the roof are a reminder of the original function of the building.
